Sputnik #100

It’s already announced by my friend and partner Jorge Alor in his twitter.

Sputnik’s 100th issue is already on news stands, and that makes me extremely happy. The cover #100 of Sputnik has been released only a few weeks after our 100th issue in Atomix, which is a strange coincidence.

I met Jorge many years ago (around 1998) on the radio show Arroba, on Radioactivo 98.5FM in Mexico City. That day, Jorge presented Sputnik #1 along with Jaime Limon, who was then the editor in chief of the magazine and who’s also been working on Microsoft since many years ago, especially on Xbox in Mexico. I was in that show doing scripts for the video game section, taking occasional appearances to discuss the issue.

Since then, I became a fan of the magazine and that was the beginning of everything, including the birth of Atomix a few months later.

Sputnik has been a landmark product in Mexico since its introduction, being the first magazine of technology and digital culture in the region. Sputnik was -and remains- as a reference in the technology market in Mexico and that’s a lot to say after 100 issues published.

The 100th issue looks amazing and is full of details. The cover was designed by Eboy, a very famous group of artists doing pixelART. When you have the magazine in your hands, you will know what I mean.

I am filled with joy since as company we’ve reached the 100th issue in Atomix and the 100th issue in Atomix almost at the same time. Today (more than ever) gives me great pride to be a part of Sputnik, a magazine to which I have a very special affection.

Thanks to our editorial team, and all those who have been part of this project, and although it sounds like a cliché, thank you very much to all our readers to endure all these years.

Atomix Magazine, issue #100

Even tough I’m in Japan, I am so happy to say that one of our printed magazines just reached it’s issue #100.

It’s been a long road since I started this company with a bunch of friends, -ups and downs like any other company and many problems in the beggining- but in the end the satisfaction to reach this point after 100 months of work is amazing.

Our editor in chief, Lorenzo Grajales, just posted the cover of the issue in his blog. The cover features a really neat metallic-finished paper and the artwork was made by famous illustrator/artist Hector Sevilla who did the artwork for the cover of Konami’s Lunar Knights.

Congrats to our team of editors, designers, and everyone at the office, and to all who have contributed with Atomix in any way or form. Thank you all.

Crazy Talented People

This is the kind of stuff that Seiichi Saito and Daito Manabe do when they have some free time. These guys are real geniuses, and they happened to be my partners in a small new venture I’m starting in Mexico. I’ll post more stuff about this soon.

So, this is it…

Welcome to my first post on my personal blog. I’ve been blogging for about 6 years from now, mostly about the videogame industry and videogames in general because of my “Everyday” work. I needed to create this personal blog because I felt like I wasn’t able talk about some more personal topics, basically because that old blog (only in spanish) is now a tool of communication with a large community of gamers and followers of Atomix Magazine .I’m currently working on two different publishing companies and also in two new companies yet to be created. In both cases I’m working hand to hand with a very talented group of people. I will try to talk about that on this space too, sharing my experience as a CEO of some of those companies and also about doing business in Mexico.I want to write a brief introduction to what I do,  on the publishing side, we publish 3 monthly magazines and websites called:

  • Atomix (Covering the videogame industry in Latin America. A magazine and online community focused for the general videogame audience, probably the biggest videogame community and magazine on the region)
  • Sputnik (Covering the tech industry, focused on the consumer electronics sector, new technologies applied to everyday life, and the internet)
  • Sonika (Covering the music industry, focused on international alternative and indie artists)
  • Neotokyo

  • That’s Neotokyo, according to Katsuhiro Otomo

Currently, I’m also working on 2 different companies that I cannot disclose too much information about. One is related to the videogame industry tough, and the other one is a technology + event planning company I’m establishing in Mexico. Both of my new companies have a strong relationship with Japanese based companies, that’s the reason why I travel often to the land of the rising sun. Hence the name of this blog, “Neotokyo”, also inspired by Japanese manga and anime “Akira”.

  • So that’s a brief intro to this new space on the net. I’ll keep posting on this blog (as the title says) about business, random thoughts, my hobbies and some of my interests. I’m expecting to have great conversations on the comments area of each post, so please, feel free to add some!Welcome again. ^_^
